The Anglo-Omani Society would like to invite you to their first lecture of 2017
Ms Aisa Martinez, ‘Cosmopolitan Connections in Omani Traditional Dress’.
Thursday 19th January 2017, at The Anglo-Omani Society in London, 34 Sackville Street, W1S 3ED.
Doors open at 5.30 pm, the lecture will take place from 6.00 until 7.00 pm.
Aisa Martinez is a Project Curator at the British Museum and serves as a Trustee for the British Foundation for the Study of Arabia. The talk will focus on national identity and men’s national dress in Oman, specifically on how the Sultanate’s long history of trade and interaction with communities in the Indian Ocean is portrayed in today’s national and traditional dress for men and women. Aisa will show that whilst elements such as fabrics, colours, shapes, and styles all reference individual cultures of South Asia and East Africa, it is their combination that makes them uniquely Omani.
This lecture is a great opportunity to showcase any personal Omani textiles or attire that you may have. Audience interaction on personal items will be encouraged by the speaker.
We would be delighted if you could join us for the event. Please confirm your attendance via email to our events booking address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
